Welcome!

Here is a book about a young athlete, Jack Gillis, who walked across Canada 100 years ago on the railroad track, and about a just retired lacrosse player, Charles Jackman, who decided at Montreal to follow him.

After 1200 miles (1700 kms) of walking alone, Jackman caught up to Gillis. Both 6 feet 4 1/2 inches tall, they hiked 1800 miles together through many adventures, striding into Vancouver station 24 September 1906.

Gillis, the first to walk across Canada, stayed in Vancouver and became Canada's all-round track and field champion.

The BC Sports Hall of Fame has honoured the"Western Giant".
